Wine trails of Northern Greece

Wine tasting is more than a simple experience, it is an art form. It interacts with memories, emotions and the senses. From the seafront of the Thermaikos Bay to the plains and mountains of the region, the area of Thessaloniki is home to some of the most fascinating vineyards of Northern Greece, producing two of the most famous grape varieties of the country, Malagouzia and Xinomavro.

Walking among the wine barrels and vineyards into the heart of this abundant land, alongside the most dedicated wine producers, we learned about the process and culture of wine making, and sampled some exquisite vintages. We enjoyed the natural beauty of mountains and vineyards stretched amidst clumps of chestnut and oak trees, and explored the history and culture that infuse the region.

We became acquainted with the two most famous local varieties and learned to appreciate and distinguish their differences. On the one hand, there is the eclectic Xinomavro; charming and unpredictable, with its virtuoso flavor and rich aromas, and on the other hand, the distinctive Malagouzia variety, full-bodied with medium acidity.  Both made our journey truly unique and unforgettable!
